Approaches to Get Rid of Hives

Modern approaches to hives remedies include natural treatments as well as traditional treatments. Some non-medical ways to get rid of hives have been practiced for ages, such as the use of herbs. The right Hives Treatment depends on a proper diagnosis; however, many people mistake hives for a skin infection. Although hives can be triggered by a viral infection, the main cause of hives is as yet unknown.

The best and most successful approaches to hives treatment include the prevention of outbreaks. By learning which triggers cause hives to form, you can help to avoid outbreaks altogether. When hives are triggered by allergies, the best way to avoid an outbreak is to avoid coming into contact with the specific allergens that trigger the outbreak. Most of the time, hives go away on their own once the offending stimuli has been removed.

Conventional Medicinal Treatments to Get Rid of Hives

The following treatments are generally used according to case severity:

  • Anti-itch treatments

  • Calamine lotion

  • Antihistamines

  • Oral antihistamines

  • Corticosteroids

While medication can be used to treat hives, there are several home remedies for hives that can alleviate the itchiness and discomfort.

Common Hives Home Remedies

  1. Use an ice pack on the skin, about three to four times a day.

  2. Oatmeal and baking soda can help to ease the itchiness. Fill a bathtub with warm (not hot) water and add at least half a box of either baking soda or oatmeal. Soak in this solution for a few minutes to reduce the itching.

  3. Apply a milk compress on the affected area for about 10 to15 minutes. Wet a piece of cloth with some cold milk and leave it on the hives. Be sure that the milk is not too cold as this could further aggravate your skin.
